We chose to call our community the weeve because weaving has historically been considered women’s work in cultures around the globe, and weaving circles have often provided women a place and reason to gather together and share, teach, bond, and connect—away from the eyes of men.
The history of women and weaving is, of course, rife with complexity and controversy (what element of female history isn’t, amirite?), but we choose to focus here on how women of the world have taken what we are given and created safe havens, community, and opportunities for connection with our fellows.
We hope to provide a space where women+ (see below) can gather in a way that feels as intimate as sitting in a circle; working, talking, teaching, laughing, and feeling seen in a world where we so often are not.
We use the term ‘women+’ to describe a broad category of individuals who feel connected to womanhood, femininity, and/or the female experience. ❤️
Right now, the only way to join is to be referred by a friend who is already a member. We want to keep the community connected beyond just this forum because that’s how it began and we believe it’s part of what made it special. Click here to be added to our waitlist tho. We may open the floodgates someday soon.
